Hamilton has ban appeal rejected

America's Tyler Hamilton has had his appeal against a two-year ban for doping rejected by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Hamilton, 34, tested positive for blood transfusions at the 2004 Tour of Spain, weeks after winning Olympic gold.
He had given a similar positive test in Athens, but escaped sanction when the "B" sample was frozen and destroyed. .
CAS confirmed that the ban started not in April, but in September, when Hamilton accepted a provisional suspension.

Froch expecting tough encounter

Carl Froch hopes a victory over Dale Westerman on Friday will lead to European and world honours in 2006.
The Nottingham fighter, 28, defends his British and Commonwealth titles against the Australian in Bethnal Green and expects a tough encounter.
"This is not some warm-up I can afford to coast," said the unbeaten Froch.

Injured Henman to miss Marseille

Eagles Win Bronze Medal

Thanks to a GARBA LAWAL goal late in the game, the Super Eagles eventually beat Senegal for the second time in this competition and they win the bronze medal. This is the 5th time that the Super Eagles would be getting the bronze medal at the African cup of Nations. In my own opinion the EAGLES deserve to be in the finals but due to their lacklustre play against the Elephants of Ivory Coast in the semifinal clash they lost out for a chance at gold. The last time the Eagles won gold was at the 94 edition which held in Tunisia. Well to the Super Eagles better luck next time and to JJ OKOCHA who played his last game for Nigeria today I say well done for your service to your country. The Super Eagles have to wait for the next edition which would come up in 2008 in Ghana for a chance at the trophy which has so far eluded their grasp since 1994.

The Elephants of Ivory Coast finally get to the finals of the African cup of Nations having overcome the Super Eagles of Nigeria in a fierce encounter.The game ended 1-0 in favour of the Ivoriens Courtesy a Didier Drogba goal in the 46th minute.The Eagles who were tipped as favourites to win the competition did not live up to expectation.They played so casually,sluggish,playing with no sense of urgency,in fact they were not at their best today.
The Ivorien defence was really organized and the midfield was well balanced.They held the Super Eagles of Nigeria at bay and this made the Super Eagles disorganized in all the departments of the game.

If it is possible to be ashen-faced and puce with rage at the same time SIR ALEX FERGUSON(manager of manchester united) pulled it off on wednesday night after Manchester united had lost to benfica 2-1
From being beaten semi finalists in the champions league four years ago,United have since slipped further and further away with each progressive season.
Beaten in the quarter finals in 2003 they failed to advance beyond the first knock out round in 2004 and 2005
This year they finished bottom of the table,arguably the weakest of the eight qualifying groups.
This champions league exit is going to cost United 15 million euros.

World football's governing body FIFA has ruled out the use of SMART BALL at the 2006 FIFA world cup in Germany .FIFA issued a statement saying that the system needs more testing to prove it,s reliability.
FIFA general secretary URS LINSI said that "we consider the technology is not yet ready.
The smart ball developed by ADIDAS with German partners is designed to rule out errors on goal line decisions. It was tested first at the FIFA-UNDER 17 world championship in Peru.
A statement by ADIDAS carried on official FIFA website said "In consultation with FIFA it has been decided to focus on the further development and testing of the system before using it at tournaments on the highest professional level.
